BEYOND THE GATES EXPERIENCE

Black metal landmarks, spectacular nature, local culture - enhance your Beyond the Gates Experience.

For years fans have been flocking to Bergen to experience their favorite Norwegian artists in their home environment. Nature and local culture has always been a poignant source of inspiration for the bands emerging from the Bergen scene. This year Beyond the Gates will make a great effort to give all the traveling fans a unique insight into all aspects of the Norwegian Metal scene and the local culture in general. In that regard we’re putting together a series of events before and during the festival so that all of you can enhance and build on the Beyond the Gates Experience

How about a guided tour in Grieghallen, where classic albums like Mayhem’s “De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas”, Emperor’s “In the Nightside Eclipse”, Enslaved’s “Vikingligr Veldi” and Immortal’s “Battles in the North” were recorded, by none other than the master mind producer himself, Pytten?

Or what about a guided tour to the Lysekloster ruins, where a series of legendary photo and video shoots has taken place? Want to see the bunker where Euronymous was photographed for the “De Mysteriis” cover and maybe take a peek behind the doors where Mayhem rehearsed before recording the seminal album? We’ve got the perfect guide to take you through the locations and tell the stories.

Join in on the mead tastings “I en hall med flesk og mjød” or visit the art gallery to a certain well known singer at Bryggen in Bergen.

And last but not least, if you are in need for some ink, it’s a safe bet to pay the spectacular Beyond the Ink Tattoo Convention, hosted by Carmen PG and Jannicke Wiese-Hansen, a visit.

If you want to take a train from Oslo and across/over the mountains and visit some heritage sites along the way, we know where to point you.

Moving on… There will be listening parties, panels, in-depth live interviews and lots of events and activities that hopefully will give you a Beyond the Gates Experience that will last for a lifetime. See below for more details.

Listening party: Blodhemn - Sverger Hemn

Dark Essence Records are happy to announce the release of the 4th album from Blodhemn, entitled "Sverger Hemn".

Since its inception in 2004 Blodhemn has been working tirelessly to further the sound of Black Metal with a distinct concept and aggressive approach.

“Sverger Hemn” is a result of a long production time and years’ worth of songwriting. There’re several red threads through the whole Blodhemn catalogue, with topics like drowning, be taken by the sea and themes centered around the area Holmengraa on Fedje in Norway, which are continued on “Sverger Hemn”.

The observant ones will find threads in both the musical as well as the visual. “Sverger Hemn” is true to the distinctive aggressive Blodhemn sound, but on a couple of tracks
Invisus has gone out of his comfort zone with different kinds of vocals and keyboards, thus experimenting with exploring elements and themes.

The result is a splendid mix of black metal and thrash, seasoned with rock’n’roll.

Well, now some of you have learned that it’s a genius combo and that this joint is capable of making magic with a piece of dough and some garnish. We’re very excited that Hoggorm will be one of the hotspots this year too. The restaurant is firmly established as one of Bergen's go to places, both as a direct result of their brilliant cookery and the fact that it has an incredible atmosphere.

They serve oysters and natural wine by the glass. Need we say more?
